Yes Wellness Blog - The Beginners Guide to Nootropics

So, you’re a newbie to nootropics…maybe you’re so new that you’re asking yourself “what in the heck are nootropics?”  It’s a good question.  When it comes to health, we may talk about cardiovascular fitness or weight loss.   You might consider how to eat healthier or you may even spend a small fortune on skin care products.  Indeed, health can be seen from many perspectives, but how often do you consider your brain’s health.  If my own thoughts are any indication, you probably don’t put much thought at all into brain health – but why not?  It is, after all, the most important organ when it comes to your drives, ambitions, and motivations – including those surrounding health.

So, nootropics then, what are they?  Essentially, nootropics are natural or synthetic compounds that are known to improve general cognitive abilities such as:

  • Memory
  • Attention
  • Focus
  • Alertness
  • Motivation

Yes Wellness Blog - The Surprising Fact Dr. Oz Didn't Mention About Forskolin

Anytime Dr. Oz mentions a magical ingredient on his show, health stores and people explode with enthusiasm based on his claims about how an ingredient truly works. Most recently, Dr. Oz mentioned an ingredient called Forskolin and how it can work for weight loss. What he may have not told you is that there are zero studies that prove Forskolin can aid in weight loss (you can read more about that here). What Forskolin can be used for, and what studies have shown, is that Forskolin is beneficial for cognitive functions. Yes – for your memory and brain.

Yes Wellness Blog - 4 Reasons to Give Raw Milk a Try

"All I want is a tall, cold glass of milk." Do you often find yourself saying this? I know that I do. Oftentimes, I find that no beverage can compare to a cold glass of milk. Maybe this is a nostalgic want from drinking milk as a kid? I don’t know, but I know I find myself wanting milk often. But one thing has changed, I don’t want the type of milk I grew up with – you know the type you buy from the grocery store. Instead, I crave the flavor of unpasteurized milk – aka: raw milk.

The benefits of raw milk are controversial. And while there are arguments for and against it, I do prefer raw milk (really a raw diet in general), over the milk at my town’s grocery store.

Whey protein is made with the liquid left over during the cheese making process, after the curds have been removed. It can be yielded in concentrate, isolate, or hydrolysate form – the two most common types being whey proteins isolate and whey proteins concentrate.

The Benefits of Whey Protein

A few of the benefits of whey protein include that it helps with:

  • Asthma
  • High cholesterol

  • Preventing allergies
  • Colon cancer
  • Weight loss

Yes Wellness Blog - Your Cup of Tea? Honeybush – The Premium Herbal Elixir

Do you ever go into your kitchen and mix your own liquid concoctions? You might make a soothing drink to overcome the flu, gargle salt water to get rid of a tickle in your throat, or maybe you keep it simple and brew a hot cup of tea. Now, not all concoctions are created equally, and that includes tea. But what if there was a premium herbal exlir that you could prepare in less than five minutes, drink everyday, and keep you health? I’ll let you in on a secret – it’s called Honeybush Health.

Honeybush Health is a Canadian tea brand founded by two cousins – a marathon runner and a physician. Soon after stumbling upon a honeybush farm in South Africa, the health conscious cousins let their curiousity get the best of them. What they discovered was truly remarkable – Honeybush was a distant cousin of Rooibos and has been used by South African locals for centuries for the plant’s medicinal-like properties. Being health enthusiasts themselves, the cousins found the plant remarkable and purchased a honeybush farm to begin producing their very own tea line, Honeybush Health.

Acetyl L-Carnitine vs. L-Carnitine

Yes Wellness Blog - Acetyl L-Carnitine vs. L-Carnitine

Feeling sluggish? Maybe you have a hard time with weight loss or even post-workout recovery? It might be time to consider supplementing with L-Carnitine. L-Carnitine is a non-essential amino acid that comes in a variety of forms, the most common being Acetyl L-Carnitine and L-Carnitine. Both forms of L-Carnitine differ with their benefits and therefore should be used for specific health goals. If you're interested in supplementing with L-Carnitine, keep reading to discover more.

Acetyl L-Carnitine

Acetyl L-Carnitine is an amino acid that forms naturally in the body and acts as a support system for the brain and nerves. Specifically, Acetyl L-Carnitine aids the Acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in the brain, by enabling blood to pass the blood-brain barrier. This results in Acetyl L-Carnitine supporting brain functions by allowing blood to reach the neurotransmitter and other nerves. When more blood and oxygen gets to the brain, along with more amino acids, you will feel more energized and overall just better. Of course, if you experience excessive tiredness, it is best to consult with a physician before supplementing with Acetyl L-Carnitine.
