As a celebrity trainer in Hollywood I have been around some of the most beautiful women in the world. You might find it comforting to know, that behind all of the glitz and glam that comes from being in front of the camera, even my celebrity clients have trouble getting and staying motivated to be in their best shape.
After having trained for The Avengers, Scarlett Johansson was thoroughly exhausted from the strict workout routines and dieting that came with the movie and decided to abandon her routine and diet for an entire month! Soon after, I had to prep Scarlett for her next film, Under the Skin. How did we get back on track? By getting back into the swing of a routine, one step at a time. I started Scarlett off with half an hour workouts and followed the following three tips:
Tip 1: Visualize Your Goal
Go for it! Put on that bikini and look at yourself in a full length mirror. What do you want to improve? What do you like? Get into a mindset that will get you excited about starting to get fit and healthy. After all, half of the battle is deciding to take the first step in improving yourself.
Now, visualize the results. Imagine your body one month from now, six weeks from now, even two months from now. You have the potential to tone what you want to tone, shed what you want to shed. It won’t be just you who notices – you’ll be turning plenty of heads!
Tip 2: Write It Down!
Write down your goal and why it is important for you to achieve this goal. Write this goal out multiple times and store it around the house and at work – even the candy drawer – to help motivate you.
Now, log the next eight weeks. From workouts to menu plans, and even how you feel at the end of each day – note it. Think of this journaling as a tool to help you realize that what you are doing is not a chore, but instead, is a treat for your mind, body, and soul. If you are honest about what you do and have something to reference what you have done, you will see why you are or are not meeting your goals. Accordingly, this will help you make necessary adjustments to help you achieve your goal.
Journaling your progress will keep you organized and make you accountable for what you do.
Tip 3: Be Vocal
You need to believe what you’re going to accomplish. So talk that talk in order to walk that walk (if ya’ get what I mean). You want your best body; you need to believe you are going to accomplish this, so say it out loud!
Vocalize your goals to yourself once a day. You will tell yourself you are committed and you will share to others that you are committed.
Getting and staying motivated is challenging for most of us – even a celebrity trainer, including activities you like to do along with an open mind to try new things will keep your mind and body ready for action. There are great gadgets out there that you can find such as a pedometer to track the steps you walk in a day, even walking burns calories and logging the results can be highly motivating.
